Dermato: make your own clay cosmetics

Exfoliating soap, relaxing bath, tonic lotion or make-up removing paste: clay is the darling of cosmetologists. Since at the moment you are forced to spend your evenings at home, here is how to pass the time, by preparing your own clay beauty products.

The interest that cosmetologists have in clay has never wavered. Thanks to its purifying effect, it normalizes problem skin, lightens oily hair and regulates the skin’s pH. Most major brands of beauty products incorporate green or white clay in their formulas. They use the absorbent properties of sedimentary rock to purify the skin, remove all its impurities and cleanse oily hair.

Due to its mineral richness and the very special relationship it maintains with water, clay can also rehydrate the epidermis and prevent aging. Oriental women are not mistaken, they use it regularly in the form of rassoul for the toilet of the body and the hair.

Green clay or white clay?

White clay : for a healing effect. White clays are the only ones to appear in Codex and to enter into the composition of medicines. They are used for the preparation of mouthwashes and gargles because of their healing action. In addition, their antacid and antidiarrhoeal properties, as well as their ability to absorb gas, make them an effective component of gastrointestinal dressings.

Green clay: for oily skin. Green clays are among the most commonly used in natural therapy. Rich in magnesia and lime, they cleanse wounds and promote healing. They are also recommended in the care of oily or acne-prone skin.

A clay tonic lotion

  • Dilute a teaspoon of white or green clay in a glass of water.
  • Stir with a wooden spoon to mix the water and clay well, then let stand for several hours.
  • Use the liquid that floats by dabbing it on the skin with a cotton ball.
  • Warning: do not keep this preparation for more than three days.

A clay makeup remover

For this recipe, if your skin is dry, choose a white clay. In case of oily epidermis, prefer a superfine green clay.

  • Make a fairly liquid paste by incorporating clay into a chamomile infusion.
  • Morning and evening, spread the paste on your face, scrub with a soft brush and rinse thoroughly.
  • Then apply the tonic clay lotion with a cotton ball.

A relaxing clay bath

To soften the epidermis and relax, add to the bath water 4 tablespoons of super fine green clay, 3 tablespoons of gray sea salt and 3 tablespoons of micro burst algae. Rinse and dry yourself without rubbing.

Red clay to reduce … redness!

Less known than white and green clays, super fine red clay, which owes its color to the strong presence of iron oxide, stimulates micro-circulation and restores color to blurred complexions. It is also perfect for reducing small redness.

Red clay is used as an ingredient to make your homemade shampoo for brown and red hair but also for a healthy glow and anti-aging effect in homemade masks. As in this video tutorial.

A clay exfoliant

Once or twice a week, mix a white or pink clay with a little water to obtain a fairly solid paste. Cover your entire body with gentle emphasis on the rough areas of the elbows and knees. Then rinse thoroughly.
